The First Time I Saw a Saguaro Cactus

The First Time I Saw a Saguaro Cactus

We picked up the camper van and finally got the keys after a long flight and a very long wait in line ten a full training on how everything worked on this house on wheels for our next week of adventure, We didn't make it too far out of the city limits before we needed a camping place stop to rest.

The cactus was talking to me. Looking at me as if to say, “Oh, you think we are funny looking don’t you?” I find them to be like cartoon characters, they feel alive and personified to me. We spent the night at the camping spot and when we woke I remember watching the sunrise and the silhouettes of the Saguaro shapes slowing coming into view. What wonderful, curious things they are.

I had read a story about desert animals to my son when he was little, the story had beautiful illustrations and it explained all the creatures that live in the great Saguaro. One of them, The Gila Woodpecker make their nests inside the great Saguaro.

If you have a young child or grandchild I recommend it. Here is the link.
