I have been reading about the Island Fox. They only live on 6 of the 8 Channel Islands, nowhere else in the world! They are the smallest Canid in the world too, only 12-13" in height.
They were almost extinct, but they have made the biggest comeback of any mammal and are now no longer threatened. A program for breeding and eliminating predators has been in place since the late 90s and it has been very successful at helping these adorable creatures thrive.
The protected public landscapes we all share are places that hold so made living treasures. I am thankful they exist. Even knowing that I may never see them, the idea that they are there for us all has meaning.
