The Color is all Wrong,
I once painted a family room only to be halfway through and really knew in my heart that the color was not quite right. Not quite right on color is, well it is simply put, it’s WRONG. You need to get the colors right because when it works it works and when it doesn’t --it doesn’t
It is mostly about harmony. In art school, we had a whole semester course on color theory, primary secondary tertiary... bottom line? Colors that are harmonious will work together and colors that don’t are in congruent. For example. The print below is not on the right wall color.
The plum and the blue-green are what we call complements. They are opposite on the color wheel. They make each color pop and fight for attention rather than blending and enhancing each other.
Don’t be afraid to jump ship if you paint a room the wrong color. Buy enough paint to try as that is the only way you will know how it will look on the walls. whole room
And yes, it is ok to buy an art print you love and repaint the whole room to make it work. It will energize you to do so! Take it as an opportunity to declutter and rearrange the furnishing to create a harmonious and minimalistic space. A space that will leave you enough room to daydream.
The primary picture for this blog post shows the picture of the print on a cool gray wall as an example of what it looks like when you get the color RIGHT!
